I have recently attended the Lincolnshire Care Association Annual Conference whilst representing a client and a local Charity – Every One (I have agreed to become their Treasurer). The day was an interesting blend of speakers and a chance to network. It was also nice to bump into a number of individuals whom I knew from various roles in LCC who have also left the public sector, and are now working in the private sector.

Prize draw Drill Hall Websafe

Today was an interesting day at the teenage market which had moved inside to the Drill Hall.  Whilst it was great to be in the warmth, the footfall at times was slow and a number of performers assigned for the day didn't turn up.  I ended up having to ad-lib and keep the energy going within the room through the compering.  This was an great experience and a new set of skills were gained!

It is the end of season presentations and great to see so many of the young goalkeepers that I have coached this year win individual awards.  What is reassuring is to see how they are developing a range of non-footballing skills which will be so important in life going forward.  Working in the analysis of data allows for attention to detail and the same is applied within goalkeeping and being able to spot minor changes that really help to make a difference to the skills the young goalkeepers possess.  Nice to see shy children over a period of time develop their confidence and grow as individuals.

Here I am with Lewis and Jake, both of whom have been coming to the goalkeeping for 2 seasons and have both won individual awards for the 2nd year running.  For me goalkeeping is a position which requires concentration and confidence, both of which are now being applied by the younger keepers.

Where has the year gone, achievements have been kitting the office out and accumulating equipment and slowly getting known and building up a list of contacts.  Do I regret taking redundancy and leaving a job where I had been for over 25years?  At this stage, the answer is No and as I feel I have the necessary skill set to be of value in all sectors.  It has also been great to see the naive assumptions taken from the public-sector view point in the care sector be better understood from a provider perspective.
